CANTICUM CGOA Vocal Ensemble Audition Information

The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is announcing auditions for a new select vocal ensemble, CANTICUM CGOA. This ensemble will focus on early music (Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque) and contemporary choral music (not, however, pop or jazz). The ensemble will consist of 8-16 singers.

CANTICUM CGOA is open by audition only (see procedure below). Additionally:

  • Members must also participate in the CGOA Voci Choir, and be members of the Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association.

  • Members must attend rehearsals (every other week, Saturday mornings) and performances (two performances annually)

  • Members must have the ability, willingness and commitment to learning music independently. Rehearsal time will not be spent on learning parts.

Auditions will be conducted entirely by video submission. Anyone interested in auditioning should:

  1. Download the score for the KYRIE from the Mass in Four Parts by William Byrd.

  2. Record a video of yourself singing your part from the Kyrie. This may be a cappella, or sung along with a YouTube or other recording, but make sure the recording allows your voice to clearly stand out.

  3. Also record yourself singing a cappella, an ascending and descending major scale (your choice of starting pitch). You may use a neutral syllable or solfege syllables.

  4. Upload your video to a private YouTube channel (if you have that capability) or send as an email attachment. Cell phone quality is totally fine. Don't worry about production values as long as the audio is clear.

  5. Send recording or YouTube link to, subject line "Canticum audition video."

Audition deadline is JULY 20. If you have questions, email me!
