A Performance to Remember

One of the most moving performances of CGOA’s 20th-anniversary season, Requiem in Five Stages, explores grief in all its complexity—from shock and anger to sorrow, acceptance and, ultimately, the possibility of light.

With music by Mark Steighner and Dennis Castanares, (texts by Mark Steighner and selections from the Missa Pro Defunctis), and performed by the Gorge Sinfonietta (Mark Steighner, conductor) and Voci Community Choir (Dan Kenealy, director), with soloists Dennis Castanares (Balladeer) and Lauren Grey (Pie Jesu), the work blends orchestra, choir, poetry and song to consider what it means to love what is mortal—and, eventually, to let go.

Performed near the close of Mark Steighner’s final season as conductor, the evening carried another layer of meaning for the CGOA community.

We invite you to experience this remarkable performance from April 2026 as part of the 2025-2026 20th-anniversary season.
