STORYTELLING

  • Bowe Theater at Hood River Valley High School 1220 Indian Creek Road, Hood River (map)

The CGOA Sinfonietta closes its season with a program rich in character and storytelling, featuring three distinctive works.

At the heart of the program is Maria Schneider’s Carlos Drummond de Andrade Stories, written for soprano Dawn Upshaw and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Inspired by the poetry of Brazilian writer Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Schneider’s evocative and wistful composition brings his words vividly to life through music and voice.

Aaron Copland’s Billy the Kid Suite captures the spirit of the American West with cowboy tunes, fiesta dance rhythms, and sweeping orchestral passages.

Completing the program is William Grant Still’s Wood Notes, an atmospheric suite inspired by the poetry of J. Mitchell Pilcher and the landscapes of the American South.
