LANDSCAPE

RUSSIAN SPRING
3 Performances!
CGOA’s Gorge Sinfonietta explores the drama, beauty, and brilliant orchestral colors of Russian music through works by three celebrated composers: Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture, Shostakovich’s October, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2. Together, these works offer a stirring journey through the depth and character of the Russian orchestral tradition.
GENERATIONS IN SWING
Two bands, one groove. CGOA's Jazz Collective Big Band shares the stage with the next generation of jazz musicians from The Dalles High School for a night that hands the tradition forward - seasoned pros and rising players trading choruses while you dance.
TIME & TRANSFORMATION
CGOA's Voci Community Choir presents Time & Transformation, a program tracing the evolution of choral music from medieval sound worlds to contemporary expression. Through centuries of style and sound, this concert explores how music transforms across time, while continuing to speak to the present.
FULL BLOOM SWING
Spring is in full swing and so is CGOA's Jazz Collective Big Band, bringing a night of big band dancing to close out the Jazz Collective's season -- bright charts, warm ballads, and a floor made for moving. The perfect way to dance into summer.

STORYTELLING
The final program of the season for CGOA's Sinfonietta is about character and storytelling, featuring three fantastic works. The centerpiece of this program is Maria Schneider's work, Carlos Drummond de Andrade Stories, written for Dawn Upshaw and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. This will be a not-to-be-missed event, as our soloist brings the stories of the Brazilian poet to life through Schneider's exotic and wistful composition. American master Aaron Copland's Billy the Kid Suite invokes the western character through every movement, including cowboy tunes, a Mexican fiesta dance, and more. Lastly, the suite from William Grant Still, Wood Notes, celebrates the American South with poems from J. Mitchell Pilcher.
